The Whole Armor
There is a war going on right now. It is taking place all over the world, and we have no way of escape. If we can ever hope to defeat this enemy, we must prepare ourselves. God, in His wisdom and grace, has given us armor. If we keep this armor on, we will win every battle that comes our way. The book of Ephesians lists six specific pieces of armor that we are to wear. There are: the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, shoes of peace, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit. Now we must tighten the belt of truth, which means to hold tightly to the truth of God’s Word. Anytime we try to handle situations apart from God’s truth, we will always end up confused. Truth is a must to have when dealing with trials. Wearing the breastplate of righteousness means having a good understanding of who we are in Christ Jesus. It involves knowing in our heart that we are children of God, and that we have been made righteous because of what Christ has done. We need to put on the shoes of peace, striving to walk in peace with God, others and ourselves. The shield of faith means that we consistently believe and trust the promises of God instead of our circumstances. It protects out most intimate parts. That’s why we can’t survive without faith. The helmet of salvation protects our thinking. It helps us to understand and appreciate what it means to be saved. This understanding is based on the Word of God and not traditional heresies. Now the sword of the Spirit is the Word of God itself. When we hide the Word in our heart we equip the Holy Spirit with all He needs destroy Satan’s lies. The Spirit will bring to our mind the exact scripture that we need, but we must study the Word. You see, when we put on the whole armor and keep it on all the time, we can walk in victory in every area of our lives. I believe that we all want victory, so let’s put the armor on.
