Tithing

Bring ye all your tithes into the store house, and prove me now herewith saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven and pour you out a blessing that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes Malachi 3: 10-11.

This is God speaking to us, and issuing a bold challenge. It’s as if He is daring us to accept this invitation to prove Him in tithes and offering. He wants to bless us supernaturally anyway; therefore He is showing us the method by which He can freely open the floodgates of heaven on our behalf. This is an incredible opportunity for us to operate in a powerful principle that will abundantly bless us in every area of our life.

Many people think that paying tithes was under the law and does not apply to us today. Therefore they do not pay tithes. But these unfortunate individuals are sadly mistaken. In fact, Abraham, Isaac, David and Solomon became rich because they obeyed God in this matter. And they weren’t rich in just wealth. So tithing was established long before the Law was given.

When Jesus fulfilled the Law through Hid death, burial and resurrection, He did not do away with tithing. He changed what motivates us to pay tithes. We no longer give out of complement and fear, but out of love, faith, obedience and worship. It is a blessed privilege to sow into God’s work, and to share in such a powerful principle.

The word "tithe" means tenth or ten percent. Proverbs 3:9 says, "honor the Lord with thy substance and with the firstfruits of thine increase".

A person who does not pay tithes is robbing God and operating under a curse. The first fruit of our money belongs to God; it is not for bills and entertainment. God gives us the health, strength and ability to go out and make money, yet many individuals fail to respond to His invitation.

When we pay tithes, we can enjoy the blessings that God has given for us. According to Colossians 1:13, we have been delivered from the powers of darkness and translated into the kingdom of His dear Son. We take our tithes to Jesus, and He presents them to the Father.

Paying tithes causes us to operate in success and abundance. It prevents Satan from launching a successful attack against us.

Where you place your money depends upon where you are receiving your spiritual food. Since the tithe is God’s money, and since Jesus receives and handles it, we should always pray and ask God to tell us where to put it.

Remember that you have come into the inheritance of God. Bring your first fruits to God and worship Him with it. Let the windows of heaven open up and flood you out with God’s provision.
