Time
For God
Prayer is a private personal method of communicating with
God. It is considered the believers’ lifeline, and perhaps the most powerful
tool for destroying the adversary. Unfortunately, it is one of the least used in
the world today. We can find time to set aside for everything including chores,
the car, vacation, job-related duties, recreation, and relaxation. How many of
us set aside a special time to commune with God. Immediately after the explosion
on 9/11, there were times set aside all over the nation for prayer. We actually
witnessed a day of prayer. Now, nearly a year later, we have someone who desires
to reconstruct our nation’s pledge: to actually remove the reality that we are
indeed a nation under God. I ask you, "If we are not under God, Then Who??
The Bible declares that the wicked will be turned into hell,
and all nations that forget God. My dear people, the U.S. is not exempt from
this warning. In order to prosper, and succeed as a people, we must pray. The
scripture admonishes us to pray without ceasing. One individual put the words to
rhyme, "You got to pray just to make it today." Just as the writer of
Psalms 63:1, we must earnestly search for the Lord. Our souls and bodies must
thirst and long for Him.
When adversity comes, if we are in communion with the Father
through consistent prayer, we are able to endure the temptations that befall us.
We can, as the writer of Isaiah declares, "mount up with the wings of
eagles, run and not be weary, walk and not faint." I have had people to ask
me, "How can you pray and get answers, but I cannot?" My reply is,
"Prayer is not only talking to God about your troubles, it involves
worshipping, and "listening" as the God of Heaven talks back to you.
A great deal of the time individuals miss out on the fact
that you must pray in the spirit. We talk to God by applying His Word. We pray
what the Word declares, realizing that God honors the spoken Word.
God encourages his people to pray. The book of Jeremiah 33:3
states, "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and
unsearchable things you do not know," says the Lord.
In the book of Hebrews, the writer encourages us to come
boldly to the throne of grace so that we may receive mercy and grace to help us
in a time in which we so desperately need it.
Why then is it so important that we come to the Lord in
prayer? Jesus stated in the book of John 16:23-24, "I tell you the truth,
my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Ask and you will receive
that your joy might be full (complete).
In order to be complete, we must pray. In closing, if you don’t
have a prayer life, start one, and if you don’t have a prayer closet, get one.
