Slow Down and Wait on God

Countless teens and young adults are in a big rush. Instead of waiting on God’s best, we try to experience life way too soon. We watch movies and magazines, and try to imitate entertainers and movies stars. Fame and popularity may appear to be exciting, but believe me; sometimes things are not what they appear to be.

Do you know why many youth experiment with drugs, alcohol and sex? It’s because they thought it would be cool. Everybody else was doing it and they did not want to be a "geek". We watch all those music videos and we try to be like that. But that’s a big mistake. We don’t need to be like nobody else but ourselves. We are cool just as we are.

Do you want to know what’s cool? Being safe. That’s really cool. Drugs aren’t safe so it’s not cool deal with them on any level. Don’t experiment with them, use them, or otherwise handle them. Drinking alcohol is not safe; therefore it’s not cool to drink. Sex outside of the sanctity of marriage is not safe, so it’s not cool. Don’t try any of these things just to be cool. Play it safe.

We need to slow down and think about things before we do them. The biggest mistake we make is doing things because the crowd is doing it. Just because the crowd is doing it doesn’t make it right. We need to take our time and educate ourselves on what can happen as a result of actions. What social good does drugs; sex and alcohol bring to a society of decent people. None at all.

Have you heard the story pf Sarah and Abraham (See Genesis 18). Abraham wanted a son very badly. It was his heart’s desire. But his wife Sarah, for some reason, was unsuccessful in getting pregnant. Eventually they got frustrated and discouraged, and having a son became a passing dream.

But God promised them that he would make it happen for them. When Abraham was 1oo years old and Sarah was 90, God told them to get ready because the baby was on the way. Within a year’s time, Sarah was rocking a baby boy.

You see, we may get in hurry, but God never rush’s. He does things at a time that’s just right for us. So when we get in a big rush, we miss God’s best. I believe this happens way too often. Unfortunately, many times our impatience can make our lives very complicated.

The bible invites us to "Cast our cares on God, for He cares for us" 1 Peter 5:7. God never plans for us to be worried, anxious and disappointed; and He certainly doesn’t want us experimenting with sex and drugs. Worry is something that we bring on ourselves, because we fail to slow down and wait on God.

God has a better and safer way for us live. He wants us to be patient and trust Him to give us things that won’t hurt us.

When Sarah had that bay boy, she named him "Isaac", which means laughter. All those years of disappointment were nothing compared to the blessings of God. It was worth waiting for.

Perhaps you have been going way too fast lately. You may even feel stressed out, or that your life is a total failure. Listen. Slow down. Stay off the streets. Come and give those burdens to God, and let Him make something wonderful out of you. Then, like Sarah, you can laugh again.
