Getting A Handle On Self Control
Self-control is something that we all have to deal with every day of our lives. In some areas, we have no problem at all. But in other areas, we fail regularly. Some of us can use charge cards just like we are supposed to; for ID only. There are others who charge themselves into a financial bondage because they spend money they don’t have. When it comes to food, many of us seem to have a hard time with it. But just like everything else in life, we have to practice self-control when we sit down and eat. There is nothing wrong with a candy bar or a piece of cake. The problem is that we over indulge, and that can lead to unhealthy habits that really wear on our overall health. God wants us to prosper and be in good health even as our soul prospers. A healthy body is God’s will for all of us. Yet to be in good health, we have to learn to eat right all the time. In general, we all have a busy lifestyle. Most of the time, we are so busy that we rarely have time to prepare a healthy meal. Therefore, we opt for the convenience fast foods and do the same for our family. But no matter how busy we are, we need to find a way to make right food choices all the time. We should not allow food to control us; we need to control the food. We need to take authority over what we eat, where we eat and how much we eat. If we sincerely seek God’s help in prayer, He can take our taste away for the foods that are not good for us, and give us a taste for healthy food. Foods like cakes, candy bars, French fries, and hi fat hamburgers are not good for our body. Foods like baked chicken, fish, green vegetables, whole grains and food with fiber are a good source of nutrition. So, let’s start this year off right by practicing self-control and making the right food choices. The bible says that we have not because we ask not. If we ask God, He will surely help us. In fact, self-control (temperance) is one of the fruit of the Spirit. With God’s help, we can do this. By: Lindia Brown |
