The Power of One

In our society, we are led to believe that the more an individual has, the greater he or she becomes. We have also been taught that there is strength in numbers (10 is greater than 5, and 2 is greater than 1).

While reading the book of Genesis, I came upon a revelation that totally contradicted what I have been accustomed to believing. As I read, I noticed that after God completed His creation, He needed someone to glorify and praise His mighty works. The Lord then pulled out of His divine nature, humanity. And man was created.

As I continued to read I began to see how this one man would have dominion (absolute authority) over all of Gods creation. While reading and meditating on this, The Power of One became abundantly clear.

Continuing my reading, I came upon many instances in which I was made aware of the Power of One.

In the book of Kings, Chapter 18, the prophet Elijah (one man) had a confrontation with the prophets of Baal (450 men). In a showdown on Mount Carmel, Elijah’s God (Jehovah) totally consumed (set on fire) the sacrifice of Baal’s prophets. David, a lowly shepherd boy, rejected by royalty, despised by the King, slew the mighty Goliath with one rock and a sling.

Abraham offered up his only son Isaac on a lonely mountainside, and thereby received an honorary degree as the "Father of Many Nations" because of his unshaken faith (The Power of One).

In one last desperate act, after the sins of man became too much for the creator to endure, God went out on a manhunt. After performing a worldwide search, God looked under the altar and found a lamb that had been slain from the foundation of the world.

Consumed by a love unknown to any man since that time, God gave His only begotten Son (Jesus) to die for the sins of many.

I trust that just as I, the readers of this passage will come to know and hold firm to the fact that there is power in one. One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism Ephesians 4:4. The Power of One.
