Overcoming Life’s Temptations
As believers, we are instructed to count it all joy when we fall into divers’ temptations. In doing so, we are assured that the trying of our faith will result in patience. The hardest attribute to acquire as Christians is patience. We are not only instructed to have patience, but it should be perfected in us. When we allow patience to have her perfect work, we are complete, lacking nothing. In addition to having patience, the Bible instructs us to not get upset when things don’t go as we desire, but seek to endure. Endurance to a believer is what water is to a fish. Just as a fish cannot live without water, neither can we without endurance. It (endurance) is what allows us an opportunity for growth. Those with the power to endure will be fully developed and capable of withstanding anything. A true believer is patient, able to endure, and a seeker. He or she looks to God for their resources. They are fully developed in every good work. If they lack wisdom, they seek out the Father who gives to each man liberally. They are not double-minded, indecisive, nor unsettled. Their anchor has taken hold of the solid rock. They dare not drift, nor are they tossed about in the sea of life. The God-fearing men are brothers and sisters of low degree. They understand the dangers of pride. God is the only one exalted in their lives. The rich and haughty are made low. They, like the grass, cometh forth but quickly withers away. They are disobedient and unwise. They seek the world for answers and find none. The ungodly are like the waves tossed to and fro with no direction, nor sense of purpose. People, we are instructed not to follow after them for their path is clearly set and destruction is their end. God upholds and blesses those who endure temptation. When a man is tempted, he should never say he is tempted of God, because never tempts anyone, nor is he tempted to do evil. When we are tempted, we are drawn away of our own lust and enticed. These evil desires lead to evil actions that ultimately lead to death. Death is what happens to those who lack wisdom and are disobedient. This death is not always natural in that, we cease to exist, but we suffer a spiritual death that is far worse. Those who are dead spiritually are without hope because they have rejected the only true light. People; follow after that which is good and perfect. Seek that which brings life. We are told to be swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to wrath. The wrath (anger) of man worketh not the righteousness of God. As people of God, we are to rid ourselves of all filthiness and evil. We must humbly accept the Word and plant it in our hearts. There, it will grow and produce fruit. A true farmer is concerned with productivity. We must be like the farmer and produce results. Many people confess to having religion, but religion alone is not enough. The Bible warns if any man seems to be religious and bridleth not his tongue, that man’s religion is vain. According to the scripture, "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and the widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." James 1:27 We must seek God for wisdom, knowledge, and be willing to obey his instructions. It is through a close relationship with the Father that we are able to overcome temptation and be complete.
