What
It Means To Be Sexually Pure
What does it mean to be sexually pure? Many youth feel they
should remain sexually pure until marriage, but that it is O.K. to kiss, hug and
pet the person they really care about.
Research studies show that high school teens are having sex
less than ten years ago, however, I am concerned that some behavior may still be
sexual, even though you don't go "all the way".
Sexual purity is about more than staying a virgin. When you
get emotionally involved with someone, you begin to rationalize. Since you
really do care about each other, you feel a kiss isn't so bad. Next thing you
know, you will rationalize in any way to keep from losing that person. I have
read about youth who have went through personality changes, ran away from home
and put their whole future on the line only to end up in a broken relationship.
And most of these youth believe in "sexual purity".
Sexual purity not only involves actions, it involves
thoughts. Wrong thoughts lead to wrong actions, and wrong actions hurt everyone.
The Bible says that by renewing your mind to the Word of God, your whole life
could be transformed into an experience that proves God's good, acceptable and
perfect will. That's not just wishful thinking, it's God's promise (See Romans
12:2).
So don't get burned thinking that sex is just "the
act". Moral purity involves keeping your thoughts pure, and abstaining from
any activity that opens the door to sex. Sex is wonderful when practiced
according to God's Simple Plan; otherwise, it can be very
harmful and destructive.
So be really committed, and tighten up on wrong thoughts.
Without a made up mind, it will be a tough struggle. Steer free of situations
that tempt you to compromise. It would also help to hang out with youth that
share the same views that you do. It is so helpful to have at least one true
friend who can hold you accountable for your actions.
Sexual purity is God's Plan. Make it your plan to.
