Words Can Hurt

"Sticks and stones may breaks my bones, but words will never hurt me." Have you ever heard that? Well, it’s not true. Words can and do hurt. Lies can make a good person look bad. Talking behind someone’s back can make good friends mad at one another. Words that brag and fuss can make us tired and sad.

If words can cause so much trouble, we should be careful what we say. It would be better to not say anything than to say something to hurt another person. But keeping quiet seems impossible.

Only God’s Spirit can help us hold our tongue. He helps us to stop using words that hurt. Instead of telling a lie, we will tell the truth. Instead of talking about a friend behind their back, we will defend them.

Have your words hurt someone lately? God can help. (Read James 3: 5-10)

Prayer – Lord Jesus, sometimes we say things that hurt others. Please forgive us, and help us to use words in ways that please You and bless others. Amen.
