Praying For Our Children

Praying for our children is something that we must commit to do on a daily basis. We must continue and never stop, no matter how fruitless it may appear. We must pray for them when they are in school, working part-time jobs and while they are driving automobiles.

One great concern is the group that they hang around. Peers carry a great influence over our youth, perhaps even greater than parents. We have to seek God in prayer about the enormous peer pressure that our children face each day.

We can also pray about their future, and about their spiritual growth. Keeping our kids before the presence of God is one of the most useful services we can provide for them.

God wants us to get involved in the lives of our children. This can be a great challenge when it seems that we live worlds apart. But God can give us the grace to make contact with them. We may have to back off on the criticism and pour on the unconditional love in order to build their confidence in us.

Many youth are involved in sports activities. We can make a special effort to show up sometimes. We don’t have to make every single game, but we certainly shouldn’t miss all of them. Show interest in their academic work and personal life. Be there to simply listen with a supportive ear. Let them talk while you are quite. You will be surprised what you can learn from them.

Let things that are important to them also be important to you. That’s called getting on their level. Who cares about a little spot in the face? Well if it concerns them, give them your support. To be honest, many youth have big time concerns, and they fear talking to parents about them. This should never be. Yet more often than not, parents are the last to know.

As parents, we are in the most ideal position to teach our children how to make positive choices. This begins in our prayers for their salvation. Isaiah 49:25 says, "I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children." We must believe that God will do what He says He will do concerning our children. All your children will be taught of the Lord and great will be the peace of thy children Isaiah 54:13

We are the righteousness of God, therefore the seed of the righteous shall be saved Proverbs 1:21.

So let’s keep praying for our children, and never give up. We cannot give in to what we see or hear about them. We must believe what the Word of God says. If we keep the faith, we will see a change in our children.
