Mask Wearers Beware

Because we live in a world filled with jealousy, envy, intense rivalry and criticism, people are often compelled to wear masks. While they do not wear a colorful piece on their faces, their actions are still deceptive and misleading. Most " mask wearers" are empty, lonely, and troubled individuals. The mask only serves to conceal their true selves.

Even as early as puberty, people are skilled in the art of pretending. They learn these deceptive ways as children and continue to demonstrate them throughout their adult lives.

This act of deception is not only popular among non-churchgoers. Within our churches are "some of the greatest actors and actresses this world has ever known."

Because there is such a stigma placed on Christians, they have become masters of deception. I have been in the company of people who race to hide certain magazines and beverages when the preacher pays them a visit for fear of being labeled "a sinner."

The Bible says, "If our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart and knoweth all things" see 1 John 3:20.

I thought the unbelievers, or sinners as they are often called, are the sole purpose for Jesus coming into the world. Even our Lord said when he was being criticized for fellowshipping with sinners, "Those who are whole are not in need of a physician." So I ask you, if Jesus understands and accepts that we are sinners in need of a savior why do we pretend?

As individuals, we must learn to accept ourselves for who we really are. We must learn to accept our weaknesses as well as our strengths. Far too often we try to change what we perceive as unacceptable so that others may approve, thus leaving ourselves empty and miserable.
