The Problem With Madonna’s BookAfter her open-mouthed kissing of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera during a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, what did Madonna do for an encore? Well, she wrote a book. It’s a harmless children’s book; some story about flowers with a message for little girls. My problem is not with Madonna’s book; it is with Madonna herself. Children’s books should be about positive things, but if one would consider this woman’s image, the best thing she can do for kids is to become a nun and go underground. Madonna has been quoted as saying, "We’re bored with the concept of right and wrong." From her point of view, every person has the right to express human sexuality in any way he or she sees fit; no permission needed. I suppose her mission is to save mankind from boredom. So what if she offends people. So what if her lewd antics push female dignity to an all time low. So what if Madonna’s performances affirm that a female’s only chance of getting noticed is to show her underwear. So what if her own little daughter watches mommy shamelessly skip across the stage with her entourage of exhibitionist doing whatever they feel like doing. It takes a Madonna kind of mother to be so deluded. I’m not sure what MTV and Madonna will have in store next year, but you better believe they will push the limits. And why not? Her performances are sold out; and MTV has ratings that go unchallenged. Where else can we see a Madonna-Britney-Christina kiss applauded by mainstream America? We call this freedom, but we are victims. Many American children simply cannot escape being sexualized at a young age. They are turned on to their emotions way too soon. Sex is the number one topic in middle school. Ten year old know about sexually related things that no young child can possibly put into context or deal with emotionally. No one can make it in a world created by an ideology of pleasure and moral indifference. That would mean that no matter what happens, it’s no big deal. My best friend just died in an accident –"Oh well". My dad got robbed and murdered – "Yeah, yeah". My kid is missing – "Whatever". Rollover and go back to sleep. I don’t have all the answers to life, but I definitely won’t be reading any Madonna books for help. It is my prayer that we as parents will be more proactive in protecting our kids from the filth seen on television, in the movies and punched up on computer screens. We need to take this serious. Madonna can write all the children’s books she wants, but until she stops being a part of the problem, she is just another hypocrite. By: Edmund Brown |
