The Little Things

And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what comparison shall we compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth: But when it is sown, it growth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it Mark 4: 30-32.

Jesus compared the Kingdom of Heaven to a small seed that grows and becomes the greatest of herbs. When He speaks of the Kingdom of God, He is not just talking about a portion of it. He is talking about all of it. That means everything.

It is so incredible how little things can become big things if it is planted. This is especially true in the decisions that we make on a day-to-day basis. It may seem like a little put-down doesn’t matter, but if we keep putting down people, it grows. The next thing you know, we have become such an arrogant abrasive person, that no one wants to be around us.

Everything begins with a seed. It starts out really small. If, for example, you are having a problem with pornography, promiscuity or rebellion, it started out small. Most likely you can’t remember what started it all. But in the end you have a situation so big that it’s messing up your whole life.

The good thing about seeds is that they produce positive things too. In fact, our right choices can begin a process of change and improvement that will make our life something really special. But we have to start the process, otherwise it won’t work.

Now don’t get me wrong. God can speak a word and make things happen supernaturally. Miracles do happen. But for the most part, life revolves around this process. And it works. Therefore, if you are wondering why undesirable things are happening to you, this may be a good place to look. After all, the Word does say that when it is "sown", it "grows" and "becomes".

Do you want good things to come to you? Do you want your life to be full of joy and peace? Then start out making right choices in the little things. Those choices will grow and produce a confident focused mature person. And that person will be you.
