Keep
Your Joy
A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the
spirit is broken Proverbs 15:13.
It is the joy of the Lord that gives us strength. God wants us to experience
His joy each and every day of our lives. He wants that experience to be so
awesome that words cannot express it. Spiritual things should affect our lives
in such a way that we are left speechless.
Our lives should be so full of joy that we attract others around us. People
want to know how we can be positive and encouraged when circumstances are so
depressing. When everything around us seems to be falling apart, the joy of the
Lord will keep us going.
When I speak of joy, I am not referring to what we may feel when we get a new
car or a new house. Don’t misunderstand me, if you get a much-deserved raise
on your job, that is a cause to celebrate. But when the house gets old and the
car breaks down, then our joy will vanish.
The joy of the Lord last and last and last some more. It never wears out or
diminishes. Though things in our life may toss and turn, our joy is steadfast. I
must admit that there are times when I have allowed my joy to slip away. I have
to remind myself that Jesus has given me joy and I will walk in it.
It is not always easy to walk in joy. It is impossible to do it in your own
power. But we can do all things through Christ who gives us the strength.
So let’s keep our joy, and not allow the enemy to take it from us. If we
are to successfully endure the storms of life, we must keep joy in our hearts.
