Keep On Serving God
Joy is a part of the Christian life. But having joy doesn’t mean that everything will always go our way. It also doesn’t mean that we will be free of bad things happening to us. Having joy means that even though we are in the midst of heartbreaking circumstances, we keep on serving God. We know that beyond what we feel right now, God has plans for a good outcome later on. So no matter what, we keep on serving God. Remember the story of Joseph and how his jealous brothers mistreated him by selling him into slavery (see Genesis 37: 12-36). I am sure that Joseph was hurt by such a biter experience. He most likely had some questions for God, and had some battles with loneliness and depression. He even served time in prison for a crime he did not commit. But through it all, Joseph continued to serve God. Not only did God bring Joseph out of prison, He made Him assistant to the Pharaoh himself. When Joseph had the perfect opportunity to get revenge on his brothers, he refused. But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it for good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save many people alive Genesis 50:20. What a beautiful way to end the book of Genesis. If we look only at the things happening to us, we will always feel down. Life can be so unpredictable. One day we’re on top of the world, and the next day we can hardly make sense of anything. But one is for certain; God is faithful and just, and He works all things together for good to those who love Him Romans 8:28. By: Edmund Brown |
