Lil iROCC Williams
We may as well accept the fact that Christian music has an alternative for genre that popular music has to offer. Enter Lil’ iROCC Williams, Christian music’s version of Lil’ Bow Wow without the "Um All Dat" image. This 13 year old grew up a typical kid in a non-Christian home until his mother’s cancer battle brought a major spiritual turning point to the family. Both parents and their children committed their lives and future into God’s hands. In my opinion, Lil’ IROCC (which means "I Rely On Christ Completely) is a welcome addition to the Christian music scene. His style is kid-friendly and innocent, not like the more thuggish I-take-myself-too-seriously Lil’ Bow Wow. From the very start of his debut project, with its thumping bass and ear catching horns, we can easily see that this artist’s intent is to rock the house with a message of truth. "Roll With It" is a rhythmically sound trac giving testament to his faith and his simple family life. "Lunchbox" describes ROCC’s junk food choices during school lunch breaks and "No Tears" is tailor made for smooth R&B fans (Hold On be strong, it won’t be long/ Cause everything is going to be alright). It is so much better for a Tween Rap Star to sing songs detailing his simple life of faith rather partying and thugging. Overall, I doubt if we will witness a lot of youth low riding through the mall parking lot blasting Lil’ iROCC tunes, but I do believe the project has an appeal capable of reaching out to a wider audience. Without a doubt, this young artist has succeeded in bringing a positive message the pre-high school generation. By: Edmund Brown |
