Person
To Person
Jesus' closest friends didn't know what to think of Him. They hardly ever
understood His stories, and struggled to find their place in His world. There
was so much about Him that was human. He was compassionate to the woman at the
well, even though she was a foreigner. He expressed anger at the moneychangers
who were making a mockery of His Father's house. At the grave of His friend
Lazarus, when He could not contain Himself, He wept. Here was so much about Him
to admire, to emulate, and to talk about.
But then there is the divine side of Him. He had a supernatural ability to
heal, deliver and forgive. He loved His enemies even as they drove the spikes in
His hand. He is our Messiah and Redeemer, the Son of God and Son of Man. He is
the Christ.
We write about Him, sing about Him, worship and praise Him. Many artists
create drawings of how they envision Him. There are videos and movies produced
portraying His life and ministry. We want a glimpse of this God/man, to behold
the glory with our natural eyes.
While movies and videos about Jesus are enjoyable, nothing can capture the
overflow we experience in our heart when we meet Him person to person. The Jesus
we want to know is the Jesus we need to experience. And the Jesus we experience
is the Jesus we want to share. He is more than a mysterious paradox; He is the
Lord of heaven who suffered for our sin. He died in our place thereby redeeming
us from eternal death. That one expression of love is continually changing us.
The world knows that we are Christians by the exchange that takes place on a
person to person level. That's where Christ transforms us. We have been
translated out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light. God is
making something wonderful out of us.
