What would it take to make you happy? What if you were the best-looking best dressed most popular person in your school? Would that make you happy? How would you like being a star athlete with a sports car? What if you discovered a gold mine, and were able to live the lifestyle of the rich and famous. Then you could get whatever you wanted and order people around. Would that make you happy?

Many of us feel that I would be happy if, …, … But possessing things doesn’t make life work. Finding the right love relationship won’t make life work. In fact, life wasn’t meant to work out for us. We make life work for us by the type of person we are and the choices we make.

Jesus told His disciples to watch out for an attitude that wants more and more things. He explained that a person’s life does not consist of the abundance of things that he possesses. In other words, even if we were to become rich, or the most popular, or the best looking, we still wouldn’t have what life is all about. None of those things will make life work for us.

Life is not about what we have but who we are on the inside. When we live our lives for Jesus Christ, we discover His way of living. Conditions are always changing, so if we depend on things and people to make life work, we are headed for a lifetime of disappointment.

The most important thing in life is the condition of our soul and our relationship with God. God loves us and is concerned about us. He knows the very number of hair on our head. That’s how important we are to Him.

Let’s stop searching for happiness in relationships and things, and find our satisfaction in God. He changes who we are, then we are able to see life for what it truly is.
