How High

"Method Man". Sounds like a villain from a Saturday morning cartoon show. Actually, Method Man is a Gangsta rapper. And if that’s not bad enough, somebody got the bright idea that he should make a movie. The result is "How High", an African-American comedy (I think) that gives new meaning to the word "pathetic".

The story is about two pot-smoking friends (Jamal and Silas) who enroll in Harvard University. Their goal is to enlighten all of the students and faculty. How do they do it? By turning them on to drugs, sex and partying. The mystery element in the picture is that the pot the friends are smoking was grown from the ashes of Silas’ friend who was killed. Whenever they smoke from the secret stash, the dead friend shows up to help them. Then one day someone steals the stash, and the wild ride continues.

The movie has no positive elements. The "f" word is used over 100 times, even heard in songs on the soundtrack. There is also a great deal of sexual dialogue, some so extreme that I will skip the details. Many of the characters smoke pot throughout the entire movie. Others drink and simply talk about drugs in such a way that it seems appealing. Add to the mix some bad attitudes, illegal behavior, disrespect to authority, nudity and cussing, then you end up with the typical Universal picture meant to promote immorality. I mean, none of this is meant to be taken seriously; right? Just take a census of the typical teen’s music collection, wardrobe and vocabulary.

I particularly take offense at the African American male being portrayed as lazy, dope-smoking uneducated sex addicts. I am a child of God made in the image of a mighty creator. I love my wife and I am devoted to my family. I work hard everyday, and I have great respect for America. Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life, and fulfilling His calling is my highest priority. My conscious is clean, my blood is red and my skin is brown. And "How High" I go in this life has nothing to do with drugs, sex or partying.
