Help Me Understand
"...and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official...sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet. The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it." Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah..."Do you understand what you are reading?’ Philip asked. "How can I", he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" See Acts 8: 26-31 Have you ever tried to put a puzzle together but couldn’t figure out how the pieces fit? Lots of kids have a hard time reading, writing and counting. But as soon as you catch on, it is so easy to do. Even though sometimes we can figure things out by ourselves, most of the time we have to ask somebody to explain things to us. It may be our mom or dad, or it might be some other grown-up. But once they explain things, it becomes so much easier. Do you have a hard time understanding the bible when you read it? Well, you are not alone. Lot’s of people have a hard time trying to understand God’s Word. That’s what happened to the Ethiopian man in this story. He didn’t understand what he was reading. So God sent Philip to help him. Philip sat down and explained the bible to him. He told him that Jesus was sent to suffer and die for our sins. When the Ethiopian understood, he accepted Jesus as his Lord. God sends people to help us understand His Word. He sends pastors and teachers to share the bible with us. As we understand and obey God’s Word, he blesses us the same way He did the Ethiopian. |
