The Greatest Thing We Can Do

I believe that most people want to do something meaningful with their lives. We all want to make a contribution. But deep inside we feel like great things are reserved for a few gifted individuals. And since we are a nobody, we rule ourselves out.

But the greatest contribution that we can make is not something that will make the headlines. The greatest thing we can do is to live a life that honors God. That means seeking to do His will in the little things. It doesn’t mean dying for our faith, but staying true to it through the difficult times.

Each day is a new challenge. We have so many obstacles to overcome. Whether we face peer pressure or sexual pressure, the greatest thing we can do is to make a choice that will honor God.

God is honored when we look for opportunities to listen to someone who is upset. God is honored when we go in the opposite direction of trouble, and when we show honor and respect to our parents and teachers. God is honored when we study hard and when we are wise in how we handle our money. We will most likely not get much recognition from men, but God keeps records of everything we do.

Honoring God’s Word is a great thing. Although it may appear to be more popular and convenient to follow the crowd, there is nothing great about it. God will stand by us when the crowd is long gone. We need to really be cautious about the confidence we put in people.

I want to encourage you to approach each day with a new commitment to honor God. As you pour your time and energy into the things that God approves, you can be sure that great things are headed your way.
