Purpose By DesignI have always felt that gospel and R&B were closely related. Apparently, many groups and choirs agree and see no harm in adding an R&B to their traditional gospel style. Fred Hammond and RFC continues to make a statement with their latest project entitles "Purpose By Design". Hammond draws upon his many years of production experience by using Rhodes organs, electric bass and live drums to bring to life an innovative project rich in gospel and R&B heritage. The listening experience is comparable to the platinum selling project "Pages of Life (Chapter 1&2). The project exalts God’s promises for His children. On the song entitled "My Father was/is", Hammond meditates on the presence of God in the big and small moments of life. I must agree with Hammond when he says that for my life His good and perfect purpose was designed, to bring me to the place where He has need of me so I want my destiny. We all have a destiny hidden mysteriously in God. Finding our place in Him unlocks that mystery. RFC shows their traditional roots on a live version of an old Sam Cooke tune entitled, "Jesus, build a fence around me." Hammond's powerful vocals guide his producing skills making this project a must for your music collection. With talk of Fred retiring and seeking a normal life of fatherhood and fishing, one must wonder of the impact such a move will have one the future phases of RFC. Nevertheless, without hesitation, we issue a full GSP Approval to Purpose by Design by Fred Hammond and Radical for Christ (Verity Records). By: Edmund Brown |
