Something To Feel Good About

Many youth today suffer from "low self esteem". A better way to look at it is that they lack high self-esteem.

Self-esteem simply means that we consider ourselves valuable and worthy of respect. I think the best way to establish high self esteem is by making right choices; choices based on God’s Word. Nothing makes you feel good like doing the right thing. It means making a decision to live for Jesus Christ, and accepting the pressure and conflicts that go along with it.

Low self-esteem effects how we handle things. We are more likely to lose our temper and have a difficult time finding and keeping friends. In fact, many youth who do drugs and alcohol suffer from low self-esteem and are just trying to feel better about themselves.

Low self-esteem makes it hard to feel good about the future. Life carries no excitement or hope, and it is easy to accept the notion that nothing good is ever going to happen for us anyway. That’s when we say, "What the use?" When we carry such a heavy burden, all it takes is one little mistake to devastate us.

Jesus Christ offers hope to all who suffer from low self-esteem. That’s what He did for the woman caught in the act of adultery. We can only imagine how terrible she felt. But Jesus removed the burden of guilt and gave her hope for the future (See John 8:11). He will do the same thing for you. He will strengthen weary hands, steady knees that give way and say to those with fearful hearts, "Be strong, do not fear. Your God will come…to save you Isaiah 35:3.5.
