Christ, the Eternal Word

In the beginning the Bible records, "The Word Existed." This same word was with God, and all things were made by Him. Nothing exists in the world that he didn’t make. Life was in Him, and this light gives light to everyone. It, (the light) illuminates the darkness in the lives of men and sin cannot extinguish it. It is not just any light, but the true light, which gives light to any one who seeks it.

After the incident in the garden, darkness covered the earth and there arose a need for light. God searched the heavens and the earth to find someone capable of bringing light.

Because of the sinful state of man, John the Baptist was one of the chosen sent to bear witness of the light. He quickly acknowledged that he was incapable of being the light that man needed, but was sent for the express purpose of bearing witness.

Just as John, our purpose also is to be a witness throughout the world. Mankind will never find the light if we, who are believers, don’t point them into the direction of God’s true light.

Like John, we are not capable of bringing salvation to all, but we can lead those who believe to Christ. It is Christ who made the world, yet the world does not recognize Him as such. He even came to minister to His own people and they too, did not receive Him.

Unlike many who allow rejection to stop them, Christ did not allow His own people to block his purpose. Although they chose not to receive Him, as many as did choose to receive Him, to them gave he power to become the sons and daughters of God. Everyone who believes that Jesus died for his or her sins and accepts Him as their personal savior has a right to sonship.

Becoming a child of God is a personal and precious thing. All will not share in it because God gives man freewill to choose whom they will serve. The scripture states, "I put before you life and death, choose life." The choice to live is not compelling, it is suggestive.

God, knowing what is best for man instructs us to choose that which will last forever: a life devoted to Him and not to the things of this world. The things of this world are temporal and ending. Sure, you will enjoy them for a while, but then like the grass, you all will wither.

Many in John’s day rejected Christ; the same is true of our time. People go on and act as if nothing is happening. Christ will return and find them idle and unwatchful. That day will catch them as a thief and eternal damnation will be their fateful end.

Although John is gone, there are many other teachers warning us of the end times. Take heed that you will not be lost. Accept the new birth; not a physical birth but a renewing of your minds and hearts. Christ is the only true light; let Him shine in you today!!
