A Price To Pay

Some choices in life are so simple. Since we have a basic knowledge of right and wrong, we know not to lie, cheat and steal. But right choices go further than the obvious; they impact every area of our life.

This is especially true concerning the music we listen to. For example, Eminem broke the year 2000 record for one-week sales of any solo artist. His project, "The Marshall Mathers LP", sold 1.7 million copies the first week in stores. He even won a Grammy award. His sales chart may be impressive, but his message is totally disgusting.

It doesn’t take a professional to figure out that he has major problems. He raps about murdering his wife, sodomizing his mother, shooting toddlers and stabbing people. His wife (Kim) wanted to get away from him so badly, she tried to commit suicide. He wears a tattoo on his abdomen that says, "Kim, rot in pieces."

His relationship with his mother is no better. Several tracs accuse her of doing drugs, and speak of hitting her over the head with a shovel. His mother has retaliated by filing a 10 million dollar defamation suit.

I am particularly confused why any sensible female would listen to this diseased disc. His treatment of women is "sick and wrong." For a birthday present, he speaks of setting his sister up to be gang raped by ten of his friends. (My little sister’s birthday/she’ll remember me/For a gift I had ten of my boys take away her virginity. From the song "Amityville"). I am all for free speech, but when our liberty hurts and disrespects others, it’s time to put an end to it.

If we want to wear designer clothes, we have to pay the price. And the cost of wearing that name of your back pockets can be expensive.

If we have a desire to bear the name of Jesus Christ, we must be willing to pay the price. And we pay that price every day by the music choices that we make. Prove all things: hold fast that which is good, Abstain from all appearance of evil 1 Thessalonians 5: 22-23.
