The Danger Of Pretending

Have you ever been asked to play pretend? Do you remember how it felt? Did it excite you, or were you totally embarrassed? Either way, the reality of the situation is, you were just pretending.

From birth, society teaches us to pretend. We try to be like or act like something or somebody that we are not. Little girls pretend to be little princesses waiting on their knight in shining armor to rescue them so they can live happily ever after. Little boys pretend to be super heroes so that nothing can stop them.

This deception grows up in children, and could contribute to much of the problem we see in mankind today. The bible instructs us to "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it" Proverbs 22:6.

Politicians will have us believe that this world will get better, when in actuality, it is headed for destruction at an enormously high rate of speed. These acts of deception are orchestrated by Satan in an all out effort to destroy mankind.

Super heroes never materialize, and "happily ever after" is only a cute fairy tale theme. The truth is that the theif comes only to steal, kill, and destroy John10:10

These deceptive acts, no matter how innocent, have not confined themselves only to the secular world. Within our churches are some of the greatest actors and actresses this world has ever known. They have become professional at pretending to be saved. Instead of confessing sins and receiving much needed forgiveness (1 John 1:9), they say they have no sin, thereby deceiving themselves (1 John 1:8). They go right on rejoicing as though the truth is in them, when in reality, it is not. They just pretend that it is.

Friends, it is in the garden of pretense that the flower of hypocrisy blooms. Like Adam, we stand naked before God. All our thoughts, fears, and inhibitions are open before Him. Like one who opens a jar leaving the contents uncovered, we stand before Him exposed. The eyes of the Lord are in every place keeping watch upon the evil and the good Proverbs 15:3 (AMP).

God is inviting us to come boldly before His throne. It is here that we find peace, and the strength to overcome life’s battles.
