Strong CharacterI believe that it is very important for youth to feel good about themselves. A person's personality (what makes you act the way you do) can be sick just like his body can be sick. The thing that makes your personality strong is feeling like you are worth something, and that you are loved. It's makes you feel very bad to sit in a crowd and no one knows or even cares that you are there. In other words, how other people see us has a lot to do with how we see ourselves. If other people say that we ugly, we tend to see ourselves much uglier. If other people say that we are dumb, we see ourselves dumber. If other people respect us and love us, we respect and love ourselves. While it is true that how others regard us affects us emotionally, there is an even greater source upon which we should build our character. What God thinks about us, and how He views us, is far greater than what our peers think. 1 Samuel 16:7 says, "...for the Lord does look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart." (NIV) Often we waste time trying to make others think good thoughts about us. We want to be accepted so badly, we even consider doing wrong things like drugs sex. We need to understand that each time we give in to all those kinds of pressures, we become weaker and weaker. Once you start giving in to people, they will control for the rest of your life. If you really want to have a strong character, "Don't start it." God never puts pressure on you. He sees beyond your outward appearance and ability. He sees your heart, and that is the most important part of you. So do yourself great big favor and give your life to Jesus. He wants so badly to teach you how to live confidently. By: Edmund Brown |
