No Future In "Macking"

"Macking ain’t easy, but somebody’s got to do it." Those words were spoken by the rap duo Kris Kross; then they use ten songs on their CD to describe how they "cut the women up."

We will unlikely find the word "macking" in the dictionary. It is a street term used to describe the art of seducing women. In fact, there are Mack manuals and whole websites dedicated to teaching up and coming pimps and playas the much-needed basics. After all, "pimping" ain’t easy either. Therefore, young men now have a convenient and easy way to find everything from cutting edge seduction techniques to free condoms. You can even find a cure for a hangover.

And if that’s not bad enough, we are now finding out that "Women Can Mack Too". At least that what the female R&B singing group 3LW says on their upcoming CD by the same title. Three Little Women (3LW for short) made their debut in 2000. Their first project talked about boys cheating on them, but this time they are talking about cheating on boys. According to group member Kiely Williams, "This is cool because that happens in life, and it’s all about real life and showing stuff that actually happens." That’s interesting. Since macking is actually happening, lets all do some macking.

While the group claims that they simply want the younger generation "take control of their lives and take care of business", they may actually be confusing us. Especially if you consider one track that’s scheduled to appear on the album entitled, "Yes, I Took Your Boyfriend". While I agree that we should show persistence and diligence in making the positive choices to help us succeed in life, I do not feel "macking" can add anything good.

Perhaps you think that "macking" is just a harmless word, but I disagree. Consider television shows like Jerry Springer and Jenny Jones. They made a fortune featuring people involved in every kind of perverse lifestyle imaginable. What they passed off as entertainment was nothing more than a mockery of the traditional values that we value.

We have gone from the Supremes to TLC to Destiny’s Child to "macking women". Sooner or later we must decide that we have had enough. Our youth are already confused about relationships, and do not understand the nature of commitment and respect. The average young male is overly aggressive and sees nothing wrong with trying to seduce as many girls as possible. Young girls lack the discipline and resolve to say no, and will lower her standards in order to be able to say she is involved with someone. And as the divorce rate rises unabated (over 50%) and teen pregnancy rates soar, we wonder what’s wrong with those kids. "Macking it". They’re just macking it.

There is no future in macking even if 3LW says girls can do it too. Relationships involve commitment and trust. Macking involves lust and lies. And if you follow 3LW, your life may end up like their new project; put on an indefinite hold. In fact, fans are petitioning Sony records in hopes of overcoming the obstacles. Due out on September 24, 2002, it won’t make the deadline.

Don’t put your life on hold following macking men or women. Jesus has a better way.
